[Apple’s Ruling] What’s Now Allowed (and What’s Not) and how to implement it with Purchasely
As of May 1st, 2025, Apple’s updated guidelines now allow apps on the U.S. App Store to include a link to an external payment option for digital goods and services—without incurring App Store fees.
This is a game-changer: you can now drive users from your in-app paywall to a web-based checkout. That said, Apple imposes strict conditions:
The transaction must happen entirely outside the app (no webviews or in-app browsers).
You must continue offering In-App Purchases alongside any external payment method.
The best part? Purchasely already supports this flow, so you can implement it right away. Just keep in mind: web transactions are currently not tracked in A/B tests, but we’re on it. An upcoming SDK release in June will bring full experimentation capabilities for hybrid payment setups.
[Dynamic offerings] Tailor paywall offers to each user
With Purchasely SDK 5.2, you gain unparalleled flexibility and control over your paywall experience:
🚀 Dynamic Offering Attach offers directly to individual users—no more duplicating paywalls to surface different plans. Serve context‑aware, personalized offers at scale without extra screens.
🔄 Unified Paywall for Intro & Promo One paywall now handles both Introductory and Promotional offers. The SDK automatically applies the most relevant deal based on each user’s eligibility—perfect for re‑engaging lapsed subscribers with a fresh trial or discount.
🤝 Google Play Billing v7 Ready Full compatibility with Google Play Billing Library 7 ensures you stay compliant and can tap into the latest Android billing features.
Every feature is designed to streamline your setup and maximize conversions—start leveraging dynamic, personalized paywalls today!
[Screen Composer] Stacks, Advanced Layouts for Buttons & Pickers and Media Fadeout
We’ve enhanced the Purchasely Screen Composer to give you even more power and flexibility when building custom screens:
Vertical Stacks give you the power to group components into a single block and arrange them vertically, bringing cohesion and clarity to your layouts. You can control vertical alignment, choose between fixed or dynamic heights, and customize the stack with background colors or images. For advanced designs, stacks can even be nested within each other, unlocking new levels of creative flexibility. This powerful feature brings greater responsiveness across devices and enables you to build visually compelling, modular screens with ease.
The new advanced layout capabilities for Plan Pickers, Buttons, CTAs, and MCQ answers allow you to display two distinct text elements on the same line. This added flexibility makes it easier to structure and prioritize key information, such as pairing a price with a monthly breakdown or highlighting a promotional tag alongside a call to action. The result: cleaner, more informative layouts that help users better understand your offer at a glance.
Media Fadeout lets you apply a subtle gradient to the bottom of any media asset, creating a smooth and elegant transition into the screen’s background color. This feature is perfect for seamlessly blending images into your design, eliminating harsh edges and enhancing visual harmony across your paywalls and onboarding screens.
[Heads up] The legacy Paywall builder will be deprecated starting June 1st
In October 2024 Purchasely introduced the Screen composer a free-form native screen designer meant to fix the rigid templated approach of its Legacy screen builder. The screen composer was designed to replace the legacy screen builder.
This is now the moment to say goodbye to the Legacy screen builder. This won’t happen overnight, but here are the different steps :
June 1st, 2025
❌You won’t be able to create new screens using the legacy templates.
âś…You will still be able to modify existing paywalls created using the legacy templated screens.
âś…The screens created with the legacy paywall builder will still be served.
Fall, 2025
❌You won’t be able to edit screens and paywalls created from the templates
âś…The screens created with the legacy paywall builder will still be served to your customers.
Spring 2026
❌Screens created using the templates won’t be served anymore.
As a reminder, the composer needs version 5.0 of the SDK.
[Feature Spotlight] Live Q&A session about the Free form composer
We thank you all for being part of our last live Q&A workshop last month.
We discussed our brand-new feature that makes designing and deploying screens—paywalls, onboarding flows, surveys, and more—a breeze.
We already received a lot of valuable feedback helping us to improve the feature on a daily basis. So, don't be shy and share your thoughts, comments and feeback via the chat or email support@purchasely.com
